The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is one of Europe’s largest cancer research centers. “Research for a life without cancer" is the mission of our world-class scientists and all our team members.
The DKFZ is a place where the brightest minds pursue bold ideas and seek answers to pioneering scientific questions through collaboration, innovation, and exploration across many disciplines. We provide a dynamic environment which empowers excellence with state-of-the-art technologies, cutting edge infrastructure, and a global scientific network.
Contribute your knowledge, vision, and dedication to create a space where scientific discovery in cancer research is transformed into benefits for human health.
The National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) is a long-term cooperation between the DKFZ, excellent partners in university medicine and other research institutions at six locations in Germany. The goal of the NCT is to bring promising results from cancer research into clinical application quickly and safely. This approach is intended to provide cancer patients with nationwide access to innovative treatment options.
One of the six NCT sites is the NCT Heidelberg, which is a collaboration between the DKFZ, the Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD), the Heidelberg University and the Thoraxklinik Heidelberg.
We are seeking for the Molecular Precision Oncology Program at the National Center for Tumor Diseases and the German Cancer Research Center as of May 2026 a
Ihre Aufgaben:
You will work in an interdisciplinary and international team of bioinformaticians, molecular biologists, and clinicians to identify (i) targetable lesions for cancer patients in high-dimensional data, including next-generation sequencing, epigenomic, and proteomic data, and (ii) perform germline and somatic genotyping in pharmacogene loci.
You will provide clinically relevant interpretation of both targetable lesions and drug metabolizer phenotypes, which form the basis of recommendations for targeted therapies. The analysis results will improve personalized treatment recommendations that will be discussed in weekly molecular tumor boards. You will evaluate molecular biomarkers for the inclusion of patients in interventional clinical trials.
You will work in and contribute to a quality management system for accreditation according to ISO 15189, and you will be part of an EU-funded multinational project.
Furthermore, you may participate in the development of workflows and pipelines for the analysis of high-dimensional data. You will have the opportunity to develop your own research projects in collaboration with other dry and wet lab scientists at our center.
Ihr Profil:
- Academic degree (M. Sc. and Ph.D.) with a background in bioinformatics, informatics, physics or a related field
- Experience in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data, ideally in a clinical context, in interpreting actionable mutations, or in genotyping pharmacogenes
- Knowledge of cancer biology, pharmacogenomics, and drug treatment is an advantage
The working language is English, so good English skills are required.
