Position: W3-Professur für Genom- und Krebsevolution / Genome and Cancer Evolution

Code number: 2019-0175

The following position is available at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in cooperation with the Faculty of Biosciences at Heidelberg University

Full professorship (W3) for

„Genome and Cancer Evolution”

(Reference 2019-0175)

Main focus of the professorship will be on the study of transcriptional regulation to maintain genome stability in healthy cells and how changes affect the evolution of cancer genomes. Expertise in comparative functional genomics and its application towards understanding genome and epigenome stability and evolution would be highly advantageous. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms and their phenotypic consequences for carcinogenesis, special expertise in high-throughput methods, in particular oncology-relevant single-cell analysis, is indispensable.

The professorship is linked to head a division within the research program "Functional and Structural Genome Research" at DKFZ. The emphasis is placed on close co-operation with other divisions within the research program and across DKFZ as well as on the establishment and maintenance of co-operation with the University of Heidelberg, and other research institutions in the region. In addition, it is expected that the post holder will actively participate in the existing research networks of DKFZ, such as the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK), and in the creation of new research networks at national and international level.

The future post holder should be an internationally recognized scientist with an outstanding track record with respect to publications (in particular in genome research) and third-party funding. The candidate should also have experience working in large, internationally recognized research projects.

The appointment requires a university degree as well as a lecturer qualification (Habilitation), or a positively reviewed junior professorship or equivalent qualification (according to § 47 of the State of Baden-Württemberg University legislation (§ 47 LHG BW)). The successful candidate will be appointed as a full professor of the University of Heidelberg according to the “Jülicher Modell”. In case all legal requirements are met, the candidate will be appointed with a permanent civil-servant status.

The DKFZ and the University of Heidelberg are equal opportunity employers, seeking to achieve a higher proportion of women in areas where they have not yet been adequately represented. Women with the required qualifications are actively encouraged to apply.

Preference will be given to disabled applicants with equal qualifications and aptitude for the post.

Applications, including curriculum vitae incl. copies of diplomas and degrees, list of publications, and a research concept, should be sent through the DKFZ online application tool (www.dkfz.de/jobs) to Prof. Dr. Michael Baumann, Scientific Director, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Im Neuenheimer Feld 280, 69120 Heidelberg, Germany, as well as to Prof. Dr. Jochen Wittbrodt, Vice-Dean of the Faculty for Biosciences of the Heidelberg University, Im Neuenheimer Feld 234, 69120 Heidelberg, Germany, by 28.06.2019.
