The National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) is a long-term cooperation between the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), excellent partners in university medicine and other research institutions at six locations in Germany. The goal of the NCT is to bring promising results from cancer research into clinical application quickly and safely. This approach is intended to provide cancer patients with nationwide access to innovative treatment options.

One of the six NCT sites is the NCT Dresden (NCT/UCC), which is a collaboration between the DKFZ, the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden (UCC), the Carl Gustav Carus Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden and the Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR).

At the National Center for Tumor Diseases Dresden we are looking for a PhD student to join the research group of Prof. Dr. med. Lena Seifert and PD Dr. med. Adrian Seifert which is located in the Surgical Research Laboratory at the University Hospital Dresden. We invite highly motivated PhD students who are interested in working in the field of tumor immunology in different gastrointestinal tumors to apply for this position.

 

Job description:

Our lab is interested in numerous aspects of the biology and immunologic interactions in the tumor microenvironment that influence epithelial mutagenesis in murine and human pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and gastric cancer. We analye the role of different immune cell subsets in tumor initiation and tumor growth in the mouse and human system. Ultimately, the results should be transferred into the clinic.

We use state-of-the-art technologies such as genetically modified mouse models and human tissue. The topic of this PhD position is to analyze our results of specific phenotypic and functional analysis of immune cells in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma in more detail and to support the transfer of these results into a clinical trial.

Requirements:

  • Diploma thesis or master's degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine or related fields
  • Previous experience with basic biochemical and immunological techniques is essential
  • High motivation and strong interest in tumor immunology
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Enthusiasm for working in an ambitious, multi-disciplinary research group
