- Full-time
- Junior Research Group Translational Radiotheranostics
“Research for a life without cancer" is our mission at the German Cancer Research Center. We investigate how cancer develops, identify cancer risk factors and look for new cancer prevention strategies. We develop new methods with which tumors can be diagnosed more precisely and cancer patients can be treated more successfully. Every contribution counts – whether in research, administration or infrastructure. This is what makes our daily work so meaningful and exciting.
The ideal candidate will join the independent junior research group “Translational Radiotheranostics” and is expected to pursue a highly innovative project at the frontiers of interdisciplinary cancer research.
Your Tasks
As part of this project, you will be responsible for...
- developing and executing experiments to evaluate the (radio)biological effects of in-house produced radioligands, radiopharmaceuticals and radiolabeled biomolecules against breast cancer.
- investigating cellular and molecular mechanisms affecting examined tumor and healthy cell lines in vitro, mainly in receptor binding studies, internalization and cytotoxicity assays.
- setting up essential in vivo experiments to study biodistribution profiles, pharmacokinetics and therapeutic efficacies of examined lead compounds.
- co-supervising advanced imaging techniques in tumor-bearing mice, e.g., PET, SPECT, microscopy.
- collaborating closely with (radio-)chemists for drug lead optimization.
- writing scientific publications and grant applications independently or in collaboration with other researchers.
- co-supervising students and colleagues.
- scientific presentation of results in internal and external meetings, such as group meetings, conferences, workshops etc.
Your Profile
- PhD and master's degree in biology, bioengineering, or a related field, preferably with a focus in cancer biology, biochemistry
- Strong expertise in cell culture, cell/tumor biology, and biological assays
- Experience and approval for animal handling is mandatory
- Profound knowledge of molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR/qPCR, WB, FC, IHC etc.)
- Strong skills in advanced imaging techniques (e.g., microscopy, PET, SPECT )
- Proficiency in bioinformatical and statistical tools to interpret complex biological data
- Reliable experience in open radioactivity handling, radiation biology, and animal handling
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for the application on animal testing (Tierversuchsantrag)
- Strong publication record in internationally acknowledged scientific journals
- Effective communication and teamwork capability in multi-collaborative and interdisciplinary settings
- You should be highly-motivated, with strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in accordance to global GLP standards.
- You should be passionate about science and possess a strong drive to impact cancer research.
- Strong scientific English language proficiencies is mandatory, with additional German ideal
- Additional background in (bio-)organic chemistry is preferred, but not mandatory
