The Helmholtz Institute HI-TRON is a collaboration of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) with the Research Institute for Translational Oncology at the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (TRON gGmbH), the University Medical Center Mainz and the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The goal of the partnership is to develop effective immunotherapies and to identify novel biomarkers for assessing the effectiveness of treatment.

The Türeci Lab at HI-TRON Mainz is seeking a proficient and motivated technical assistant with a solid background in onco-immunology and a drive to innovate new platforms. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing laboratory operations while contributing significantly to our research and development efforts.

 

Your Tasks

  • Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations and assist fellow lab members with practical tasks, including:
    • Cell culture: cultivation of human and mouse cell lines and primary immune cells
    • Molecular biology and cellular manipulation: conducting DNA and RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, PCR, cloning, transfection, and transduction
    • Conduct western blotting, ELISA, and various staining techniques for immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry
    • In vivo work: monitor animals and support other lab members with animal experiments (e.g. inoculations, dissections, tissue sampling, and processing)
  • Support the development, implementation, and optimization of new processes and methodologies
  • Assume responsibility for logistical and administrative duties in the lab, such as equipment maintenance, supply procurement, and documentation

Your Profile

  • Education as a technical assistant (e.g. BTA) or biology laboratory technician
  • Proficiency in standard molecular and cell biology techniques
  • Experience in cultivating and engineering primary human cells and mammalian cells
  • Familiarity with immune profiling using flow cytometry and/or microscopy techniques
  • Desirable prior exposure to animal experimentation in immuno-oncology
  • Experience in laboratory management
  • Proficiency in German and English, both written and verbal
  • Highly organized and structured approach to work, with a problem-solving orientation
  • Thorough documentation of work activities
  • Motivated and eager to acquire new skills
  • Strong teamwork ethic, positive attitude, and creativity
  • Willingness to supervise and support student projects
