“Research for a life without cancer" is our mission at the German Cancer Research Center. We investigate how cancer develops, identify cancer risk factors and look for new cancer prevention strategies. We develop new methods with which tumors can be diagnosed more precisely and cancer patients can be treated more successfully. Every contribution counts – whether in research, administration or infrastructure. This is what makes our daily work so meaningful and exciting.
The German Cancer Research Center is seeking for as soon as possible a
The research departments of Prof. Holger Sültmann (Cancer Genome Research (dkfz.de)) and PD Dr. Magdalena Görtz (Multiparametric methods for early detection of prostate cancer (dkfz.de)) have joined forces to pioneer multi-omics profiling technologies for non-invasive tumor diagnosis and monitoring. Using cutting-edge liquid biopsy approaches, we aim to develop diagnostic panels that transform patient care, with a specific focus on diagnosis and risk stratification of urological tumors.
Your Tasks
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a strong biological background and a focus on bioinformatics. The position is ideal for candidates who are passionate about bridging biology and computational science to tackle key challenges in cancer diagnostics and treatment. The core of this role is the development of integrative analysis approaches to establish disease-relevant signatures using NGS data from liquid biomaterials. You will be responsible for the entire workflow from wet lab, NGS data analysis to the integration of data from liquid biopsies, clinical information and medical imaging. To uncover clinically meaningful disease signatures, a close collaboration with the interdisciplinary team of clinicians, wet lab scientists, and computational biologists on the campus is desired.
You will be jointly affiliated with the laboratories of Prof. Sültmann and PD Görtz and will collaborate with partners at the DKFZ (e.g., Dr. Dr. Daniel Hübschmann (hi-stem.de) and Prof. David Bonekamp Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (dkfz.de)), the University Hospital of Heidelberg, as well as national and international collaborators.
Your Profile
- Master's degree and PhD in biology, bioinformatics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field
- Previous expertise in NGS data analysis and data management
- Strong interest in translational oncology and a desire to work on biologically focused research projects with high clinical relevance
- Experience in big data analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling is desirable
- High motivation to work in an interdisciplinary team including clinicians, wet lab scientists, and computational biologists
- Excellent communication skills in English (knowledge of German is an advantage)
