The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With approximately 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.

For the High-Throughput Sequencing Unit of the German Cancer Research Center, we are looking for a Bioinformatician. The High-Throughput Sequencing Unit is one of the largest sequencing centers in Europe and the only academic site in Germany with a fleet of HiSeq X-Ten, NovaSeq and other Illumina platforms.

Ihre Aufgaben:

  • Writing bioinformatic analysis scripts for the validation/qualification of new NGS protocols (using Python)
  • Data analysis and evaluation within the scope of interlaboratory comparisons of NGS facilities (EMQN round-robin lab comparisions)
  • Participation in the initial data QC and troubleshooting of data production issues
  • Support our quality managment processes by establishing standardised testing protocols
  • Development and optimisation of existing analysis pipelines for the quality control of NGS data (Illumina and PacBio)
  • Bioinformatic analyses for clinical sequencing projects (i.e. INFORM https://www.dkfz.de/de/inform/index.html)
  • Moderate our local Job Scheduler (Slurm), Wiki and Kanboard
  • Help maintain our local instance of the Galaxy bioinformatics platform
  • In-depth bioinformatic analyses for in-house collaborations

Ihr Profil:

Applicants need to hold a diploma or master's degree in bioinformatics, or related fields, having a solid background in application of sequence based bioinformatic tools and basic knowledge of molecular genetics.

Befristung: The position is limited to 2 years with the possibility of prolongation.
