Position: Abteilungsleitung (w/m/d) „Translationale Pädiatrische Gliomforschung“ // Head of Division "Translational Pediatric Glioma Research"

Code Number: 2020-0179

The DKFZ is a member of the Helmholtz Association and with over 3,000 employees the largest biomedical research institution in Germany and one of Europe’s leading cancer research centers. We operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research to fulfill our mission of unraveling the causes and mechanisms underlying cancer development and progression. We further develop novel strategies for prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. To further improve the cure rate of children suffering from cancer the “Hopp Kindertumorzentrum Heidelberg” (KiTZ) was recently established. KiTZ is a “Comprehensive Cancer Center” for therapy and research in pediatric oncology and is funded as a joint venture between the DKFZ and the University Hospital Heidelberg. The objective is to pool research expertise in an internationally visible center dedicated to pediatric malignancies.

The scientific focus of the division will be the application of cutting-edge functional genomics technologies to interrogate the biological underpinnings of pediatric brain tumors, in particular gliomas. Clinical translation of these findings through the development of molecular diagnostic methods and pre-clinical studies will also be expected. The division will be integrated into the existing programs at the KiTZ.

The successful candidate is required to hold a PhD or MD/PhD. We further expect several years of leadership experience with responsibility for graduate students and scientists, expertise in the generation and analysis of next-generation sequencing datasets, in pre-clinical model systems and in molecular diagnostic platforms are required. A strong record of publications and successful third-party funding applications should also be documented.

The DKFZ is committed to increase the percentage of female scientists and encourages female applicants to apply.

Among candidates of equal aptitude and qualifications, applicants with disabilities will be given preference.

The position can in principle be part-time.
