Position: Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Fellow – RNA-Protein Interactions in Cell Division

Department: RNA Biology & Cancer

Code number: 2020-0232

The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.

In the Division of RNA Biology & Cancer at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, we are recruiting a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow eager to take part in a ground-breaking research project in the field of RNA/protein biology founded by the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung and in collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Isabelle Vernos (CRG, Barcelona, Spain).

Job description:

The development of a novel method to identify RNA-dependent proteins (Mol Cell 2019; Nat Protoc 2020; R-DeeP.dkfz.de) provided strong preliminary data for a significant impact of RNA-Protein complexes in cell division. Here, we advertise an innovative project, that will focus on the functional characterization of RNA-protein interactions during key cell division processes. The interdisciplinary methodological spectrum of the project will combine cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, microscopy and bioinformatics as well as experiments using the Xenopus system. While most of the techniques are already available in our well-equipped lab, the successful achievement of the goals will require the active exploration and establishment of new methods. Our international team headed by Prof. Sven Diederichs offers a cooperative and science-driven environment with high standards to promote high-quality research in respect of the good scientific practices, with a balance of supervision and mentorship to grow into scientific independence.

Requirements:

We are looking for an ambitious, creative and highly enthusiastic team player, driven by curiosity, with a deep interest in collaborative and interdisciplinary research, able to self-organize, plan and conduct goal-oriented experiments efficiently, accurately and independently. Besides a PhD/Dr. rer. nat. or equivalent degree with an above-average grade, ample knowledge and practical experience of the basic protocols in molecular and cellular biology evident from scientific publications is essential, as well as the ability to precisely generate, document and analyze experimental data. Experience in bioinformatics is beneficial but not mandatory. An excellent proficiency in written and spoken English is required for communication purposes, keeping track of protocols, reporting and presenting results.

If you are interested, we are looking forward to reading your application (CV, publication list, university degrees and reports, description of research experience and contact details for at least three referees in one single PDF) submitted via the online application portal (www.dkfz.de/jobs).

We offer:
