Code number: 2020-0240
The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.
We offer a position for a computational biologist, computational immunologist, or bioinformatician in the dynamic cross-disciplinary team comprising experienced scientists, physicians, and computational scientists of the Applied Tumor Immunity group headed by Prof. Dirk Jäger at the DKFZ/NCT.
The main task is the analysis of high-throughput datasets including NGS data and their immunological interpretation in order to develop and improve immunotherapeutic treatment approaches, and to support clinical trials and research projects. The applicant is expected to further develop the established analysis pipelines and workflows in close collaboration with project partners. The applicant will have access to a wealth of resources including clinical data, computing facilities, and scientific/technical core facilities.
The applicant should have a PhD in one of the following fields: computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, or relevant engineering disciplines. The applicant should demonstrate scientific/technical capacity with a relevant or broadly relevant publication record. Experience in the computational analysis of omics data, solid programming skills in a high-level programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java) and/or appropriate scripting languages such as R or Python, as well as familiarity with Linux compute clusters are highly beneficial. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong ability to independently solve problems while working effectively with the principal investigator and lab colleagues, are required. The applicant should be able to articulate clearly the scientific and technical requirements, and work within a cross-disciplinary setting and within deadlines.
