Junior professorship (W1) with tenure track in

“Translational pediatric sarcoma research”

(Ref.No. 2019/0057)

The focus of this professorship will be to establish an internationally competitive research program in the area of translational pediatric sarcoma in the context of the newly founded Hopp children’s comprehensive cancer center (KiTZ). The scientific focus will be on genetic, molecular and cell biological research of pediatric bone and soft tissue sarcomas. Main focus of the position is on Ewing sarcoma and/or Rhabdomyosarcoma. The future successful candidate will have outstanding knowledge in biological fundamentals in the development and progression of sarcoma as well as relevant experience in clinical practice. Therefore, we are looking for a clinician scientist, ideally with a specialist training in pathology.

We are looking for an outstanding personality, representing the field in research and teaching. Relevant experience in acquiring and carrying out third-party-funded projects and supervising scientific work are also expected. The future candidate will have scientific experience in several of the following areas: (molecular) pathology of this tumors, genetic analysis, establishment of predictive and prognostic markers, modeling, and clinical issues (e.g. therapy-resistance, tumor heterogeneity).

In addition to fulfilling the general administrative prerequisites, candidates must have received a university degree and completed their research training in a timely manner with an outstanding doctoral degree. Further qualifications should include an excellent publication record and international research experience. Documented evidence of teaching ability and independent teaching experience are required. In case of an employment as a scientific associate before or after the conferral of doctorate, time of employment and doctoral phase should not exceed in total six years, in the area of medicine not exceed nine years.

The successful candidate will be granted civil servant status with limited tenure for six years. The position may be extended, pending a positive interim evaluation. In the event of a positive evaluation, the position may be converted into a tenured full (W3) professorship (tenure track).
