Within the “DKFZ Leadership Program in Cancer Research” and generously supported by the Hector Foundation II, the following position is available at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) at the earliest possible date
Head of Division “Translational Medical Oncology”
(Advanced Clinician Scientist; DKFZ-University Medical Center Mannheim)
The division head is responsible for the development of the clinical translational cooperation between the DKFZ and the University Medical Center Mannheim (UMM) within the envisaged "DKFZ-Hector Cancer Institute at the University Medical Center Mannheim". The overall goal is to develop innovative clinical translational therapy concepts in personalized oncology using Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs).
Based on your own research projects as well as within multidisciplinary teams, you will be responsible for translating innovative research approaches into clinical translational trials which will be carried out in the newly established trial unit. A strong expertise in the implementation of tumor biology findings into therapeutic approaches including clinical trials is required.
In addition, you will be entrusted with the management of the "DKFZ-Hector Cancer Institute at the University Medical Center Mannheim". This also includes the development and implementation of structures for clinical translation (including reverse translation) in close cooperation with scientific and administrative departments of the DKFZ and the UMM.
You will bring a doctor of medicine (MD) and excellent research achievements to be proven by publications to the role. Furthermore, you will provide high-level expertise in conducting clinical trials, scientific leadership and cooperation skills, an international reputation, networking skills as well as a proven record of success in the acquisition of high-quality third-party funding. Proof of successful promotion of young scientists (especially at different levels of training of Clinician Scientists and Medical Scientists) is desired. Excellent knowledge of German is an essential prerequisite.
Clinical activities comprise the outpatient treatment of patients with oncological diseases within clinical trials. Therefore, a German medical license, board certification in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology (or equivalent specialist medical training), high competence and leadership experience in patient care as well as the willingness and ability to cooperate and work interdisciplinarily are expected. International experience is advantageous.
With the “DKFZ Leadership Program in Cancer Research” we aim to increase the number of highly qualified scientists (m / f / d) in leadership positions. Although the program is open to all qualified applicants, this especially applies to female scientists who are currently underrepresented at the DKFZ. Participation in mentoring and leadership programs is also supported by this program. Depending on professional qualifications a subsequent call for a W3 full professorship is planned.
The salary level is equivalent to a W3 full professorship.
