Full Professorship (W3) in

„Computational Genomics and Systems Genetics

(Kennziffer 2019-0098)

The focus of this professorship will be to establish an internationally competitive research program in the development of scientific computing methods for the analysis of multi-dimensional data from genomics and systems genetics, particularly on single cell analysis. The successful candidate will be an internationally established researcher, experienced in the area of bioinformatics and molecular genomics, to forward the development and application of computer assisted approaches, including up-to-date methods in machine learning and decoding molecular variations.

The position is associated with the leadership of a division in the research program Functional and Structural Genomics at the DKFZ. Close cooperation with other departments at the DKFZ, the Heidelberg University, active participation in the existing research networks of the DKFZ, such as the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK), and in the establishment of new national and international research collaborations will be expected.  A close cooperation with DKFZ service units will be expected, providing a broad access for the whole DKFZ to newly developed bioinformatically and computer-aided technologies.

Further qualifications should include an excellent publication record and international research experience. Relevant experience in acquiring and carrying out third-party-funded projects and supervising scientific work in the field of image processing are also expected.

Prerequisites for application are a university degree, an excellent doctorate as well as a habilitation, a positively evaluated junior professorship or equivalent qualifications. The joint appointment follows the “Jülich model”, where the successful candidate will be appointed as a full professor at the University of Heidelberg and granted a leave of absence to the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). Further conditions of employment are set down in §§ 47 and 48, section 2, of the Baden-Württemberg federal-state law on higher education (Landeshochschulgesetz). In case all legal requirements are met, the candidate will be appointed with a permanent civil-servant status.
