Position: Postdoc in Cancer Biology
Department: Personalized Medical Oncology
Code number: 2021-0143
The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.
We have an open postdoctoral position in the Division of Personalized Medical Oncology (head: Prof. Dr. Dr. Sonja Loges MD, PhD) funded by the Deutsche Krebshilfe in the national Network Genomic Medicine (nNGM) Lung Cancer. The successful candidate will coordinate a multicentric preclinical validation platform for uncharacterized genetic alterations diagnosed in the nNGM network, generate functional data and submit results to an nNGM-wide IT platform. These results will be available for the tumor boards of all nNGM sites and help to inform clinical decision making. The work will be supported by a technician position.
The Division of Personalized Medical Oncology focusses on the identification of novel cancer-promoting mechanisms in the tumor microenvironment. Based on these functional insights we aim to derive novel targets for therapeutic intervention. Translation of research findings into the clinic will be possible at the newly founded „DKFZ-Hector Cancer Institute at the University Hospital Mannheim“, which is also directed by Prof. Dr. Dr. Sonja Loges and generously funded by the Hector Foundation II.
We are offering an interesting and challenging field of work as well as an excellent work environment in a dynamic and multinational team, which works closely with national as well as international collaboration partners in academics as well as pharmaceutical companies. The work location is Heidelberg.
- Cloning and characterization of genetic alterations with respect to their function as potential drivers
- Analysis of binding capacities, in vitro sensitivity testing of small-molecules
- In-silico analyses and screening
- Project management and communication with partner sites
- Supervision of PhD, undergraduate students and technical staff
- Presentation of results within the collaborative project
We are looking forward to receive applications from highly motivated scientists. Applicants should hold a master and PhD in biology or a related field with a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Applicants should ideally have a documented strong expertise in cloning strategies, pre-clinical tumor models, protein biochemistry, preferably single-cell proteomics as well as experience in the analysis of protein-ligand interaction. Basic bioinformatic knowledge (e.g. handling data sets in R) would be appreciated. The scientist on this position is expected to work independently but collaboratively with other lab members as well as with other research groups. An excellent communication skill for scientific discussion is indispensable as well as a high level of self-motivation, enthusiasm and the willingness to perform high quality work.
