Altered metabolism is a hallmark of cancer and metabolic reprogramming in cancer supports the synthesis of macromolecules for cell growth and proliferation. Metabolic reprogramming can also be a driver of transformation and generates selective vulnerabilities that can be exploited for cancer therapy.

The Division of Tumor Metabolism and Microenvironment aims to unravel the cross-talk between oncogenic signaling networks and metabolic processes in cancer cells. We are also interested in the mechanisms by which altered metabolism associated with metabolic diseases drive cancer initiation and progression. We apply state-of-the-art methodologies, including advanced tissue culture, RNAi and CRISPR/Cas technology, transcriptomics and proteomics techniques as well as targeted metabolomics, metabolic flux analysis and stable isotope tracing.

 

Job description:

As successful candidate you will use the above mentioned methods as part of an interdisciplinary research project elucidating the deregulation of lipid metabolism in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. 

Requirements:

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist holding a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry or molecular biology, with practical experience in cancer biology. Good knowledge of cancer biology and experience in cell culture, biochemical assays, metabolism and cell signaling is desired. Candidates with experience in functional genomics, metabolomics or lipidomics will be preferred. Experience in the analysis of large datasets (e.g. using R) is of value. The project is part of an interdisciplinary consortium and excellent communications skills in English are essential. We are offering an international and collaborative working environment with access to high-end instrumentation.
