The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.

Together with selected university partner sites, the DKFZ has established the German Cancer Consortium (Deutsches Konsortium für Translationale Krebsforschung, DKTK). The alliance between the DKFZ as the core center and the university partner sites in Berlin, Dresden, Essen/Düsseldorf, Frankfurt/Mainz, Freiburg, Heidelberg, Munich and Tübingen establishes joint translation centers at the University Medical Centers of each of the selected partner site.

The DKTK contributes significantly to filling the translational gap between basic and clinical cancer research, thereby developing new strategies for personalized oncology in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. DKTK conducts transformative translational cancer research, educates the next generation of translation-oriented medical and clinical scientists and establishes strong pipelines towards clinical cancer research and the economy. The German Cancer Research Center (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, DKFZ) is seeking for the partner site Frankfurt/Mainz of the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK) a junior research group leader.

 

Job description:

We seek to appoint a junior research group leader with a strong background in translational research addressing mechanisms of therapy resistance mediated by the tumor microenvironment. The successful candidate should have a proven track record in tumor immunology, vascular biology or studies on cancer-associated fibroblasts to match with and complete the profile of the DKTK partner site Frankfurt/Mainz which has a strong focus on tumor microenvironment.
The DKTK partner site Frankfurt/Mainz and the DKFZ provide access to first class state-of-the-art core facilities in Frankfurt and Heidelberg. Translational research activities are supported by access to large patient cohorts, high quality tumor tissue banks and excellent clinical research facilities.
The junior research group leader will be employed at the DKFZ Heidelberg and located with the research group at the Georg-Speyer-Haus, Institute for Tumor Biology and Experimental Therapy in Frankfurt (https://georg-speyer-haus.de/en/).

 

Requirements:

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree, preferentially (but not required) with postdoctoral experience and have a publication record that is internationally competitive for their stage of the career. The successful candidate is expected to acquire competitive national and international third-party research funding.
