Position: Postdoctoral Researcher

Department: Mechanisms Regulating Gene Expression

Code number: 2024-0107

The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.

We are currently looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join the group of Prof. Dr. Michaela Frye (Division of Mechanisms Regulating Gene Expression) in Heidelberg.

Job description:

The Frye lab studies the function of RNA modifications in cancer development, metastasis and therapy resistance. You will be part of an exciting and stimulating research environment, working closely with a team of researchers, clinicians and computational analysts. Our project addresses the question how RNA modifications dynamically control transcription and mRNA translation when cancer cells are exposed to a new environment during metastasis or cancer treatment regimens for example.

We utilize a wide array of biochemical, cellular, computational and in vivo approaches to identify novel epitranscriptomic key players. A major part will be the integration of nanopore sequencing approaches for full-length transcript analyses and base modification detection.

Requirements:

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree and at least one first author publication. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a strong background in molecular/cellular biology, stem cell biology, and transgenic mouse models, but even more important is their motivation to learn and adapt to scientific challenges and become a positive member of the lab.The position requires proficiency in spoken and written English.
