“Research for a life without cancer" is our mission at the German Cancer Research Center. We investigate how cancer develops, identify cancer risk factors and look for new cancer prevention strategies. We develop new methods with which tumors can be diagnosed more precisely and cancer patients can be treated more successfully. Every contribution counts – whether in research, administration or infrastructure. This is what makes our daily work so meaningful and exciting.
The Hopp Children’s Cancer Center Heidelberg (KiTZ) is a joint institution of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), the Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD) and the University of Heidelberg (UniHD).
As a treatment and research center for oncological and hematological diseases in children and adolescents, the KiTZ is committed to scientifically explore the biology of childhood cancer and to closely link promising research approaches with patient care – from diagnosis to treatment and aftercare.
The Division of Pediatric Neurooncology at the German Cancer Research Center and the Hopp Children’s Cancer Center Heidelberg is seeking from 15.06.2025 a
Your Tasks
The postdoc will work on data analysis for integrating large-scale single-cell muti-omics datasets (scWGS/WES, scRNA-seq, and, scATAC-seq), including copy-number variations (CNVs), single nucleotide variants (SNVs), and gene fusions analyses, generated within the HEROES-AYA project. The postdoc will leverage state-of-the-art single-cell analysis techniques and develop innovative methodologies to enhance data interpretation. The goal is to advance the understanding of cancer evolution, heterogeneity, and resistance mechanisms in fusion-driven sarcomas. The postdoc will independently manage own academic research, coordinating work to meet project deadlines whilst receiving mentorship and support from the supervisor. He/she will also prepare research publications and internal/external presentations, participate in relevant collaborations, and act as a source of information and advice to other group members on methodology and analytical approaches.
Your Profile
- Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, biostatistics, computer science, or a related field.
- Strong bioinformatics analytical skills and proficiency in Linux/Unix command-lines and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, and Bash) are required.
- Experience with machine learning and high-performance computing environments is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with the analysis and integration of next-generation sequencing and other multi-omics data, particularly single-cell or single-nucleus analysis, is preferred. A strong interest in oncology is essential.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write publications, present research findings, and represent the lab at meetings and conferences.
