The Organoid Platform at the DKFZ Hector Cancer Institute in Mannheim focuses on the establishment and application of patient-derived cancer organoids. Central to its activities are establishment and biobanking of organoid models, as well as advaced high-throughput functional assays.

To support this platform, the Junior Research Group „Translational­ Gastrointestinal Oncology­ and Preclinical Models” is seeking for the next possible date a highly motivated

The position offers a unique opportunity to work at the interface of clinical oncology / gastroenterology and cutting-edge preclinical models, contributing directly to research with high relevance for patient care.

 

Your Tasks

  • Establishment of patient-derived organoids from tumor and healthy tissue biopsies
  • Support of the development and optimization of organoid protocols and platform workflows
  • Processing, handling, and biobanking of patient samples (e.g., tumor tissue, blood)
  • Performing and supporting experimental procedures, including functional assays, DNA/RNA isolation, and other molecular biology techniques
  • Documentation and management of organoid-related data and metadata
  • Support of patient sample acquisition, including interaction with clinicians and study teams
  • Contribution to the overall organization and maintenance of the organoid platform

Your Profile

  • Completed training as a biological technical assistant (BTA), medical assistant (MTA), laboratory technician (Biologielaborant:in), or equivalent qualification
  • Hands-on experience in cell culture is required; previous experience with organoids is an advantage
  • Basic knowledge of molecular biology techniques
  • Ability to work independently and in a structured manner, with high attention to detail
  • Strong team spirit, reliability, and a proactive working style
  • Flexibility to work across sites (primarily Mannheim, partially Heidelberg)
  • Good command of English and German
