The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is one of Europe’s largest cancer research centers. “Research for a life without cancer" is the mission of our world-class scientists and all our team members.

We investigate how cancer develops, identify cancer risk factors and search for new cancer prevention strategies. We develop new methods with which tumors can be diagnosed more precisely and cancer patients can be treated more successfully. Our Department of Policy and Implementation Research for Cancer Prevention conducts studies to close the gap between evidence and policy. The mission of the department is to accelerate the uptake of evidence into policy and practice in the field of cancer prevention. Through cutting-edge research and transdisciplinary collaborations, the division strives to improve public health outcomes by ensuring that evidence-based interventions are effectively delivered to all populations.
Currently, we also want to review local and national policies through an equity lens and examine how health care access varies for populations with greater structural disadvantage.

To strengthen our team in this work, we are seeking, as of September 2026, a

 

Your Tasks

  • Geospatial data cleaning and preparation for statistical analyses and research reports
  • Web scraping for publicly available data, as well as requesting and purchasing available geospatial data
  • Data quality & plausibility checks, including field verification for data quality and consistency
  • Data labelling
  • Support future proposal development activities

Your Profile

  • Enrolment at a college or university for the duration of the activity, preferably in the master’s programme (from the 1st semester) or in the bachelor’s programme (with geospatial data experience from the 3rd semester)
  • Experience with quantitative data preparation, such as survey data
  • Experience with geospatial data and GIS software (e.g., QGIS or ArcGIS) is a plus for master’s students and mandatory for bachelor’s students
  • Willing to work onsite in Heidelberg 100% of the time (with some field visits)
  • Working knowledge of English (German is a plus)
  • Careful, reliable and independent work
  • Interest in public health research
